Air Agitation Systems for Electroplating Tanks
The following are suggestions, recommendations, and drawings for air sparger systems that promote efficient and uniform air agitation patterns to obtain the optimum results from electroplating processes. These sparger systems can also be used in conjunction with eductors for certain applications.
1. Use ¾ “ diameter distribution pipes (CPVC)
2. 3/32” and/or ⅛” diameter holes should be staggered, pointing down at 60” from vertical plane, or 120” apart from each other and counter sunk.
3. 3/4:” distribution pipe not to exceed 5 feet in length
4. Number of holes per one (1) square foot of effective surface area of solution is variable.
5. Use 3/32” diameter holes in distribution pipe for 15”, 18”, and 21” anode centers. Distribution pipe to be 2” from the bottom of the tank. Distribution pipes to be 6” apartn.
6. Use 1/8 “ diameter holes in distribution pipe for 24”, 30”, and 36” anode centers. Distribution pipe to be 2” from the bottom of the tank. Distribution pipes to be 11” apart.
7. Air blowers normally need to develop 15 C.F.M @ 2.5 lb/ft^2
Air Agitation - Eductors
Properly built air distribution system!
· Even, rolling air pattern.
· Low pressure blower. Do NOT use air compressor.
· Properly sized CFM of air blower.
· Use CPVC pipe and connectors.
· Use header for each set of air spiders.
Eductors are becoming popular.
· Used where air quality standards are strict.
· Can vector solution to reduce burning.
· Do not use filter pump. Use a separate pump.
· Some solutions require air agitation.
