BLACK OXIDE
Black oxide is a blend of caustic, oxidizers, and additives that is used on ferrous metals. There are three types of metal blackening: hot, mid, and room temperature blackening. Come to EPi for all your black oxide needs.

Why Black Oxide?
The benefits of metal blackening are far greater than simply an attractive finish. While visual appeal is nice, EPi's black oxide treatments offer better, more durable results.
EPi is the only supplier to offer all three black oxide chemical processes for steel:
- Hot Black Oxide (285° F)
- Mid-Temperature Black Oxide (225–255° F)
- Room-Temperature Black Oxide (65–85° F)
All of our black oxide processes can be used in-house, saving finishing costs, cutting lead times, and increasing productivity and quality. We also offer new turnkey black oxide lines and upgrades to existing finishing lines.
View the Black Oxide Temperature Guide for a detailed breakdown of each steel-blackening process and how to choose the appropriate temperature for a project.
