Tomorrow evening I will watching the premier of the HONOR FLIGHT movie, a documentary about the World War II Honor flights from Milwaukee, WI to Washington DC.
In April 2011 I took my good friend George Sirotkin, 92 years old, from Westmoor Country Club to Washington DC. It was an experience of a life time to be be on a flight with all of those veterans many who were in wheel chairs and where having health concerns.
That day I picked up George at 4 am. We caught a charter flight to Washington DC Dulles airport. Once we landed, George was warmly welcomed by over 200 greeters. Next, we took a bus to the WW II monument in the rain. We also saw the Korean and Vietnam memorial as well. After that we went to the Iwo Jima memorial and also the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Back to the airport our flight was delayed because of the weather. We arrived late in Milwaukee at 11:00 pm to a warm welcome of 8,000 greeters of all ages welcoming these heroes back in Milwaukee.
By the way we were interviewed during our stay and it will be interesting to see if we made it into the movie. This movie will be shown on Milwaukee public TV on August 20th channel 10. Stay tuned.
