Black Oxide Coating, Black Oxide Finishing for Zinc, Stainless Steel & Aluminum
Black Oxide Coating for Zinc
Insta-Blak Z-360 is
a room temperature blackening process for die cast and plated zinc surfaces.
The very mild acidic liquid concentrate is diluted with 9 parts of water
for a 10% by volume working solution. Immersion times of 2 - 5 minutes.
Equally effective on cadmium surfaces.
Black Oxide Coating for Stainless
Steel
Insta-Blak SS-370 is an acidic liquid concentrate used full strength or diluted with up to 3 parts water to blacken stainless steel at room temperature. Recommended for color coding parts and blackening engravings on stainless steels. Produces a pleasing dark gray/black finish.
Black Oxide Coating for Iron, Steel
& Powdered Metals
Insta-Blak S-334 is
a swab-on finish recommended for quick touchup of scratched or damaged
black oxide surfaces. It is also used for swab-on finishing of prototype
parts. The mildly acidic liquid concentrate is used at full strength.
Aluminum Blackening
Insta-Blak A-380 is
a room temperature immersion finish for aluminum surfaces. Alkaline
liquid concentrate used at 25% to 40% by volume in water. Immersion
times of 30 seconds to 2 minutes. It is recommended for blackening aluminum
objects not requiring a high degree of abrasion resistance such as heat
sinks, etc. It is not as hard as a black anodized finish. The hardness
of the finish can be enhanced by top coating with a clear lacquer such
as EPI's
E-Tec 520
or E-Tec 525.
Insta-Blak A-384 is an acidic liquid concentrate used full strength that is applied by swab-on techniques for blackening engravings, etchings, prototype parts or for the quick touchup of scratched or re-machined black anodized surfaces.
Insta-Blak A-385 is an immersion or swab-on finish at room temperature for aluminum surfaces. Mild acidic liquid concentrate used full strength for swab-on finishing and touchup finishing or diluted with 4 parts water for immersion finishing. Frequently used to produce an imitation pewter finish on aluminum surfaces.
